Is violence part of human nature or is it a part of social influences? This is the argument this is of this thought. Social influence plays a large part in defining who we are these days. If a person is raised in poverty, in an area with large gangs, they adapt and find the easiest way to survive, or the most direct way to survive. This may be violence of any form. That is why gangs can be so successful because they offer protection; they offer an umbrella a place where a person can survive. If this same person is brought up in a household where there is no stealing, no killing, then yes this very same person would live a life that could very well be free of violence. Instinct is based on survival. A person must do what they must do to survive, so they will fight for their life. This world is too small and too crowded. If one looks at anthropology and the rise of people, you can see at one point that when we were hunter gatherers, there was no social class system, there was no leader. Everyone was equal, but that is because there was plenty of room to live, there was plenty of food to hunt, there was no competition. Can our world exist like this, tough, people have ownership, we have to have ownership otherwise tragedy of the commons occurs. Competition occurs, the fear of not having enough or losing it all to others. This competition degrades life and will most likely cause violence. Can it change? Theoretically yes it can, on a small scale it can too, but our society, most societies are not set up to be able to perform this conditioning, because with class comes competition, comes social influences. With these come both the good and bad. I believe that we must do good, serve the people, show kindness, change the way we condition, but know that violence will always exist until there is no more competition. This is my answer.
